Unwelcome House Guest?

Is Jesus welcome in your life?

Is Jesus welcome in your life? Is He only welcome for a visit? We so often only “invite” Him for a short term basis. It’s like when you have company. You take time and prepare- clean the house, make the beds, cook food, make everything look and feel nice and cozy. But the company leaves and after a while there are messy floors, dirty dishes, and disheveled beds. No longer is your home open for guests. Is Jesus just a guest or does He get to stay? Is He comfortable in your home? In your life?

Does He know where the cups go or where you keep the towels? Or do you only keep Him as a house guest not a member of your home? Are you only willing to have Him stay when it is convenient for you; when it fits your schedule? We think that our lives have to be presented to God as all tidy and cleaned up, but God knows what our lives look like when the “guests” are gone. He sees every moment and loves us in those ugly, messy moments that we want to hide away under our beds and in our closets.

There is something intimate about seeing the mess of another person. Not like seeing their messy car but seeing into their soul. Knowing their hurt, dreams, fears, and shame is a connection. God wants that connection. He wants us to share our daily lives with Him. He wants to spend time with us when there is no one around, no distractions. Just Him and you. God wants us to want Him. Can it really be that simple? I know I have a hard time just being with Him. The busyness of life seems to pile high like the laundry and overshadow the most important thing to life. Relationship. Connection. Thanksgiving. Just simply being with Him. I don’t know about you but I am tired of the old way of doing things. I am thirsty and weary in a land of mediocre and superficial connection. I want a deep, rich life filled to the brim with an authentic relationship to my Savior.

“O God, you are my God; earnestly I seek you; my soul thirsts for you; my flesh faints for you, as in a dry and weary land where there is no water. So I have looked upon you in the sanctuary, beholding your power and glory. Because your steadfast love is better than life, my lips will praise you. So I will bless you as long as I live; in your name I will lift up my hands. My soul will be satisfied as with fat and rich food, and my mouth will praise you with joyful lips, when I remember you upon my bed, and meditate on you in the watches of the night; for you have been my help, and in the shadow of your wings I will sing for joy. My soul clings to you; your right hand upholds me.” Psalm‬ ‭63‬:‭1-8‬ ESV
